The Feds have brought a 39-count indictment against Robert Brockman, that is the largest in US history. Mr. Brockman is the CEO and Chairman of the Reynolds and Reynolds Company. Reynolds and Reynolds is one of the largest automotive retailers in the country.
The charges include conspiracy, tax evasion, failing to file foreign bank account reports, wire fraud, money laundering, evidence tampering and destruction of evidence. This encompasses pretty much anything and everything you can do to defraud the government.
What Mr. Brockman did was very complicated and we will probably never understand the full scope of his scheme. However, here is a simple breakdown. The indictment claims that Brockman hid money in offshore entities in Bermuda and Nevis. Then directed those profits to Bermuda and Switzerland. This scheme goes on over a 10 year period of time and Brockman would backdate records, use code words and encrypted conversations. Brockman further instructed someone to alter, destroy or mutilate documents and computer evidence to keep it from a grand jury.
As to this date, Mr. Brockman has pleaded not guilty. Only time will tell as to what, if any, punishment he receives.
