Chris Tucker the actor known for "Friday" and "Rush Hour" allegedly owes the IRS over $9,000,000. The IRS filed a lawsuit where the tax debt goes all the way back to 2002. As an attorney, I am very surprised to learn that the debts go that far back. The IRS has a 10 year statute of limitations. That means the IRS can only collect that debt for 10 years from the date the returns were filed. The statute can toll and extend, but I very rarely see it going that far back.
The complaint was filed in a Nevada federal court Monday. "Despite notice and demand for the payment of the assessments set forth above, Mr. Tucker has neglected, refused, or failed to fully pay the assessments against him." the lawsuit states.
The 50 year old actor has played prominent roles in the well known movies such as "Friday" and "Rush Hour." He has only been in a few movies since 2007 and doesn't appear as if he is interested to act again. With this very large balance owed to the IRS, the question becomes, will we see Chris Tucker on the Silver Screen anytime soon?
